The existing chalet faces the Fribourg Pre-Alps, perpendicular to the slope. It has two levels, one of which is partially underground. At the front of the building, a slab on pillars serves as a terrace.
The proposed extension extends the surface area of the terrace. The new volume includes two additional bedrooms and two bathrooms. Taking advantage of its position on the slope, the building’s facade is unobstructed, providing optimum natural light.
From a thermal point of view, the existing structure has been renovated. The YSOX log facades were retained, while the roof insulation was improved. The electric radiators were replaced by water radiators heated by an air-to-water heat pump.
The extension is built as a reinforced concrete block set into the natural slope of the land. The insulating layer is built inside the volume. Particular care was taken to integrate the blind boxes into the geometry of the eaves, a device that not only limits the penetration of sunlight into the rooms, but also drains rainwater from the terrace away from the façade.
